The IP•Tube G4 Abis Optimization solution reduces bandwidth required to interconnect Mobile Base Stations to Base Station Controllers with advanced 3GPP Abis optimization. Abis T1/E1 traffic between BTS and BSC is optimized and transported over less T1/E1 capacity, or can be encapsulated into Ethernet packets for efficient transport over LANs, WANs, MANs, IP Satellite, xDSL, Cable and Wireless Ethernet.
The physical trunk connecting a BTS and BSC is typically a T1/E1 circuit, and carries 24 (T1) or 32 (E1) separate 64 kbps DS0 channels. The IP•Tube G4 Abis has 1 to 4 Telecom interfaces that can be configured as full or fractional T1 or E1. The Abis traffic is optimized and encapsulated into Ethernet packets for transport over LANs, WANs, MANs, IP Satellite, xDSL, Cable and Wireless Ethernet.


 T1/E1 Optimization
This additional capacity means existing TDM circuits can carry more traffic, voice and data, with no additional CAPEX or OPEX. As GSM networks expand, increased load on the backhaul network can be supported without adding additional TDM circuits. The IP Tube Abis also makes it easy to offload data to separate IP facilities thus further increasing the voice capacity of the original backhaul assets. In addition, when it’s time to go “all IP”, the IP Tube Abis TDM over IP capabilities future proof the investment. Using the IP•Tube Abis can also bring higher capacity or new connectivity to remote cellular Base Stations previously too expensive to reach by Satellite and other means, enabling the extension of mobile services to areas previously restricted due to cost considerations. Engage’s Abis Optimization produces a gain in bandwidth utilization of 2 to 3 times over the installed network.

 Make IP Backhaul More Bandwidth Efficient with the IPTUBE G4 Abis
The IPTUBE G4 Abis provides IP/Ethernet interfaces in addition to T1/E1 ports. This allows the user to utilize the Abis interface over T1/E1 trunks to increase backhaul throughput and also convert these more efficient TDM circuits to IP, all within the same product. Not only does this permit voice circuit growth without additional TDM capital expense, it allows the user to begin conversion of the backhaul network to IP without installing higher cost Ethernet interface equipment at the growth Base Stations.

 Pay-As-You-Grow Field Upgrades
The IPTUBE G4 Abis is designed for Pay-As-You-Go growth from 1 thru 4 T1/E1s per unit. Customers can elect to economize initial network installations, by purchasing their IPTUBE G4 Abis with a single active port. As the network grows enable additional Ports via a software-based license key. Additionally any port on the IPTUBE G4 Abis can be configured as T1 or E1, so a unit supports a mixed combination of ports.
