Applications
IPTube G4 Abis The Engage IPTube Abis optimizes cellular backhaul for more efficient bandwidth use and lower capital expense per Base Station upgrade.

The IP•Tube G4 ABIS can be added to installed backhaul networks to increase flexible bandwidth lines without adding new TDM circuits.

The IP•Tube G4 ABIS with Abis optimization can mean bandwidth reductions of up to 3:1 and lower CAPEX costs.

Cellular Base Station Backhaul with Abis

IP Cellular Backhaul

The IP•Tube G4 Abis optimizes connection of Base Stations, Base Station Controllers and Mobile Switching Centers over TDM backhaul connections. Cellular service providers reduce operating and capital expenses by increasing voice carrying capacity using Abis optimization.

ABIS Mobile Backhaul

The IP•Tube G4 Abis identifies non-traffic packets on T1/E1 circuits and reduces bandwidth requirements by eliminating 'silent' traffic periods (SIDs). The network interface can be utilized to carry additional service traffic between the Base Station and the Base Station Controller. By increaing teh capacity of excisitng TDM backhaul circuits, the requirement to add new circuits for traffic expansion at a Base Station is reduced. Significant cost savings are possible by reducing the requirements for new infrastructure and maximizing the utilization of existing backhaul circuits.

Optimized Abis Over Satellite

The IP•Tube G4 ABIS enables Satellite Service Providers to efficiently tap into the multi-billion dollar GSM mobile operator backhaul service business. GSM operators are expanding from urban areas to rural and remote areas with lower Average Revenue Per User, especially in economically emerging countries.

Satellite transmission offers the proven solution for quickly reaching smaller, remote and dispersed communities, and delivering reliable connectivity, provided that the cost is right. The high Operating Expenditure typically associated with satellite transponder usage lowers the profitability of such deployment, limiting its application to specific cases and interim fast service coverage deployment.

ABIS Mobile Backhaul

Engage’s Abis Optimization, which can achieve up to a 3:1 reduction in the bandwidth required for GSM BTS satellite backhaul, makes it possible to provide mobile services to locations that are revenue challenged. Connecting phone systems across a wireless Ethernet connection has a return on investment that is measured in weeks.

Combine Multiple T1/E1 backhaul circuits over a single TDM link

The IP•Tube G4 ABIS can provide as much as 3:1 total bandwidth reduction on a per TDM circuit basis. This can mean the ability to combine added T1 or E1 circuits on existing backhaul circuits without additional installation of equipment for the backhaul network.

ABIS Mobile Backhaul

The Abis compression option means valuable savings when adding just a few more data or voice circuits per Base Station. It permits a economical solution for adapting exisiting remote mobile sites to future data oriented service offerings. With the IP•Tube G4 ABIS optimization additional backhaul infrastructure is made available at a fraction of the cost of installing new backhaul network equipment.

Engage Solutions for TDM over IP/MPLS

The Engage Communication IP•Tube has proven itself around the world as an effective solution for interfacing TDM equipment to IP/MPLS networks. As higher bandwidth requirements are placed on the mobile services infrastructure, equipment will be utilized to combine voice and data traffic over a variety of backhaul and transmission systems. The Engage products provide an economical alternative for reliable high-speed data transmission. Whether the backhaul is wired Ethernet, wireless Ethernet, microwave, TDM or IP/MPLS, Engage has products to efficiently adapt network protocols and maximize network throughput.
